Business Analysis and Its Role in Your Organization
Business analysis is a field that is coming into its own. The job of business analysis can no longer be taken for granted in the business world. It is a vital part of finding problems and creating solutions for your organization. As an increasing number of organizations are looking for ways to do business faster, better, and cheaper, they are turning to business analysts for help. As such, it is important for you to think about how it might help you.
At its core, business analysis bridges the gap between a business and its technology and processes. Through business analysis, organizations are able to find problems and opportunities. They can then come up with solutions to those problems and ways to take advantage of the opportunities. This can be done through technology (either new technology or changes to the way current technology is used) or through changes to processes. A complete business analysis ensures that your company is working as efficiently and effectively as possible. But who has the time for that? The business analyst fills this role.
A business analyst acts, in many ways, as a translator between business needs and their solutions. Business analysts play a unique role because they fit nicely between business operations and technology services. They understand the business and its needs. They also understand the ways in which technology can help an organization. They are strong communicators who can speak in terms that business operations understands, yet they can also effectively speak in technical terms that technology services needs to do their jobs. Business analysis is oftentimes a balancing act, yet, when done correctly, it can have a strong effect on an organization.
Because business analysis, as a profession, is steadily gaining ground, the University of Delaware has partnered with Wilmington-based Computer Aid, Inc. (CAI), an IT outsourcing, integration, and consulting company, to offer a certificate program in Business Analysis Training. The course is offered through the department of Professional and Continuing studies as an evening program for working adults. The course is aligned with the standards set forth by the International Institute of Business Analysis and spans the skills that all business analysts need from Enterprise Analysis to Requirements Elicitation and Analysis to Solution Assessment and Validation. The University of Delaware partnered with CAI based on their 25+ years of performing business analysis for Fortune 1000 companies. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a certificate from the University, and they would be able to use their education hours to apply for the Certified Business Analysis Professional certification. More importantly, they would be prepared to enter the field of business analysis and to help organizations find solutions to their business needs.
